A LATE 18TH CENTURY NEUCHATEL QUARTER REPEATING BRACKET CLOCK BY LAMBELET C1780. J.H Lambelet originates from the small Swiss town of Aubonne on the banks of Lake Geneva and is only a few miles from the famous horological centre of Geneva itself. The waisted case numbered 345 with dark painted background painted with polychrome foliage surmounted by a pediment and a Neoclassical urn finial, over cast and repousse mounts, and an applied gilt metal trophy of a crossed quiver of arrows. The door displaying a flaming torch set within a laurel wreath. The case really does have to be seen to be fully appreciated! It certainly has a presence that states “wow”…
The 9 inch white enamel Roman and Arabic dial with engraved gilt brass hands has a concave centre with an overall convex rim. This is a rare feature and must have been difficult to produce perfectly 250 years ago!
The rectangular plated two barrel movement with verge escapement and outside count wheel striking on two bells is currently being fully overhauled by me personally and will come with a full three years guarantee for your peace of mind. Provenance: Antiquorum Geneva, Important Watches, Wristwatches and Clocks, 21 October 1995, lot 709.
